Celkové hodnocení střediska (počet hvězdiček) neodráží prostý průměr, je zde zohledněna řada různých faktorů, včetně aktuálnosti recenzí.
Red River jsem pro rodinu rezervoval, protože to bylo inzerováno jako „dobré pro začátečníky“. Je to 10 let nebo i více, co někdo z rodiny lyžoval, a měli jsme osmiletého nováčka. Velmi drahá lyžařská škola pro děti byla inzerována jako vynikající. Instruktor mého vnuka, Brian, strávil většinu času rozhovory s nimi, zatímco se učili stát na lyžích. Vyjeli jen krátkým pohyblivým vlekem. Do konce dne lyžoval jen velmi málo. Když jsme se zeptali na vlek, Brian řekl, že se k vlekům nedostali, dokud děti nebyly v lyžařské škole 3 dny. (v celkové výši 750 dolarů) Chci bezpečí, ne setrvačnost. Naproti tomu před 30 lety jeho otec v 7 letech absolvoval lekci v Angel Fire. V poledne byl nahoře na hoře a lyžoval jako kachna do vody.
Kromě toho má Red River jen hrstku skutečně zelených sjezdovek, pokud nejedete na zadní stranu hory. I když je tato oblast vynikající a má mnoho skutečně zelených sjezdovek, jediná cesta dolů z hory je modrá sjezdovka označovaná jako zelená. I dobří lyžaři v naší skupině měli problém a nevím, jestli můj DIL ještě někdy bude lyžovat. Z tohoto důvodu se Taos vyhýbám - vedou tam jen dvě cesty dolů - jedna, kde se dá lyžovat na tyči věčně, a jedna jako tato, která je strmá a náročná pro úplné začátečníky. Doporučil bych Angel Fire, pokud chcete zůstat v Novém Mexiku, nebo Copper, pokud chcete dobrý soubor hor, který odděluje lyžaře a je bezpečný pro všechny.

Poprvé jsem tu lyžoval. Chtěl jsem to zkusit. Žádné čekání. Mnoho různých sjezdovek. Spousta sněhu. Spousta značení sjezdovek, takže jste věděli, kam jít. Menší místo, takže méně davů. Snadnější orientace. Určitě se sem vrátím. Snadný stánek pro skipasy.

Great size mountain for a family with kids of different ages and abilities. Got a good snow early in the week that made for great conditions. Had a wonderful visit and will definitely be back!

My mother-in-law had a cabin here for years. We did more cross-country skiing, but did do some downhill. The mountain would be a good one to learn on, but a more experienced skier will soon be bored. Unfortunately spring skiing is hit-or-miss because of the lower elevation. The town itself is really boring, just a few restaurants, none of which are very good, and no apres ski scene to speak of. Taos Ski Valley is better in every way.

This is a great little ski resort, and the town has everything you want. You have to understand this is not a large resort like Winter Park. It is much smaller. But the trade off is a lot less people. While the town is full and vibrant during the peak season, there are never long lift lines. But the town has great shops, friendly people, and a great selection of restaurants. The mountain does not have a lot of exceptional terrain, but it has a variety of blue and green runs for all levels of skiers to enjoy. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed. By the way, I recommend going to Colorado for spring break skiing. It is usually pretty warm in New Mexico at that time and the snow can be sparse and/or slushy at that time.

We've been skiing Taos, Purgatory, Angel Fire and Ski Apache for the last ten+ years. Mostly at Taos and Purgatory, only trying the others once. Red River is a nice mountain when they have snow. Not much snow at Spring Break this year. I don't know about other years. Spring Break can be funny, weather wise. We've been in blizzards and deserts, this year at Red River a desert. We skied three days. It got pretty slushy early. Some runs should have been closed but were not. Lots of exposed grass, stumps and...well, no snow. They do a pretty good job of bringing the mountain back up to speed by morning, but this spring break just didn't have enough snow for me. Coming down the top lift by 11:00 had big mixture of slush. I'm sure it's great when there is snow, I did see lots of people enjoying themselves. We left early our last day.

This is a great little ski mountain when they have snow (middle of winter, early spring) I have only been here once, mainly since I am an expert skier and usually end up at nearby Taos, the mecca of steep. But, I was glad I came because Red River has some great medium-steep runs too. I consider it best for beginner and advanced skiers. The beginner area at the base is fairly large, and there is another whole beginner area up at the top of the mountain! It is a little unusual the way they have it split up into little areas each served by its own short lift, but that makes it great for families with children. Your children would have to try really hard to get lost on this mountain! This is one of the few ski areas in NM with a town right at the base, ski-in, ski-out.
