Mountain High je na to, co je, docela slušná hora. Ve srovnání například se Snow Summitem je zde poměrně dost rozdílů. Mountain High je menší hora (ve všech ohledech). Méně sněhu, méně sjezdovek, vleků a dokonce i infrastruktury. Pokud potřebujete snadné místo na lyžování uprostřed týdne, které je vzdálené hodinu jízdy, pak je Mountain High tou správnou volbou. Ale pro víkendové výlety, začátečníky nebo rodiny s dětmi může být Mountain High naprostou noční můrou. Jednoduše řečeno, není to nejlepší místo pro první lyžování. Bezohlední zaměstnanci, neuspokojivé jídlo a ubytování v chatách, nedostatečné zasněžování a absurdní (a nedbalé) davy jsou základem Mountain High, alespoň v resortu West.

To byl ale otřesný zážitek. Vzala jsem své dvě děti, abych je naučila lyžovat - ten chlápek mi nedovolil stát s dětmi na pásu kousek odtud - s dvěma dětmi. Zatracení blbci - idioti, neškolení, možná rasisté - nevím, proč jsou oba takoví blbci. Zkazili mi to den - taková maličkost, hloupí necitliví dělníci. NEBERTE SEM SVÉ DĚTI - TI HRUBÉ SE S VÁMI NEBUDOU ZACHÁZET SPRÁVNĚ.

Mountain High je středisko určené pro lyžaře a jezdce z jižních údolí San Joaquin, Antelope Valley a širšího Los Angeles v Kalifornii. Zážitky z lyžování jsou zde docela dobré, s otevřenými sjezdovkami s nízkým sklonem na nižší hoře a kobercem, který je dostatečně daleko od hlavních vleků, aby nezpůsoboval problém ostatním. Davy jsou zde docela velké, což dává smysl vzhledem k jeho poloze. Protože zde není mnoho sjezdovek, bývají zde docela přeplněné. Za jasného dne můžete z horního vleku vidět oceán, což je docela fajn. Mají dobré nastavení parku s vestavěným přirozeným postupem. Skutečnou nevýhodou MH je sníh. Prostě tam tolik sněhu nenapadá a ten, který napadne, je velmi mokrý a nedbalý. Sníh se téměř okamžitě po napadání mění na bramborovou kaši. Pokud jste v oblasti Jižní Kalifornie, stačí jet o pár hodin déle do Mammoth a pro obyvatele okresu Kern je China Peak jen o půl hodiny dál a nabízí mnohem lepší zážitek.

Naše dnešní lekce začala velmi pěkně, s mnoha instruktory. Hlavním instruktorem byl starší muž, který byl zpočátku docela milý, ale pak si začal stěžovat na ostatní instruktory a to se jen zhoršilo. Jeden z nich byl velmi starý muž, který jako by nevěděl, co se děje. Požádali jsme milou instruktorku, aby nám pomohla s otočením, ale hlavní instruktorce se to nelíbilo. Pořád jí říkal, aby nemluvila. Bylo tam i pár dalších milých mužů, ale nesměli nám pomáhat. Hlavní instruktor se velmi rozčílil, když jeden z našich přátel upadl, a trvalo dlouho, než se k nám přidal. Ten starší chlap odhodil své vybavení a udělal scénu. Milá instruktorka zůstala dlouho, aby nás naučila, jak se zatáčí. Po tom všem jsme byli opravdu zmatení. Jinak byli všichni lidé na hoře velmi milí, i lidé z půjčovny, i když můj kamarád dostal hole, u kterých jedna neměla dole gumu. Rádi se vrátíme, ale jen pokud najdeme milého instruktora. Prosím, dávejte si pozor na své učitele, Mountain High. Celkově jsme měli dobrý den.

Forcing the public to eat only food and drink bought at the park makes mountain high completely unfriendly towards families. The food is often old, moldy and always overpriced. Bad move mountain high. Greed will cost you. From what I hear not even employees are allowed to bring their own food to eat on lunch break. Wow is that even legal?

Overall our experience was pretty good. Snow conditions were good given the fact that MH is a busy place and in a challenging climate area (So Cal). The lifts were a bit on the older side and my youngest wondered why many of them had no safety bars. The only lift to be problematic that I saw was the one that serviced Easy Street. Parking was as expected, busy. Get here real early on high traffic days and you'll be blessed with a parking spot at either resort, otherwise you'll have to park at the East to take the shuttle over to the West. The main road is a 2 lane rural road, so there will be traffic jams at the start and end of the day (8:30-4).
Generally the lifties were friendly and did their job, likewise with the counter help at the ticket booth, lot attendants and elsewhere. A shout out to Alyssa (sp?) at the children's learning center who exemplified customer service, helping us over an issue with some gear.
Regarding the lessons, there was some confusion with one son's full day skiing lesson and he was placed in a half day, that got sorted but he wasn't able to get any learning drills up on the lift accessed slopes which he was told that he would. My wife and other son felt that the first time lessons for snowboarding were taught at a level or so above their non-experience and they could have benefited from a different teaching style.
Traffic on the slopes was busy during our time there and I expected the usual mix of higher density boarders to a lower number of skiers with the attendant issues. I would expect this at any So Cal ski area though, it's par for the course given the region. Expect shredders and newbies mixing it up, so use situational awareness and have fun- That's why we go, right? Overall though the crowds were generally respectful of each other and I didn't witness any issues between folks that would be cause for concern.
Lodge life was typical for the level of ski area that it is, I didn't imbibe in apres ski drinks at the base (I had to drive) but the food is average park food, a bit pricey though as was the alcohol. The firepits at the west lodge looked nice and cozy. The vibe is typically chill SoCal.
Generally the place was a decent value for the money, no doubt you may find a better snow experience in different areas (CO, UT, BC etc), but as has been mentioned to the point of distraction, MH is an easily accessible place usually with decent snow. A great place to learn and do some growing before driving up to Mammoth, Tahoe, the Wasatch and beyond or maybe it's your home mountain and you're fine with that.

Emily is AMAZING! I’m not exactly sure what her position is but on this night she played the role of a life saver!!
Three of my friends and I were parked 2 miles away from the resort and needed to get back to our car!
Emily offered to take us back down the road in her Subaru. Not only this, but she waited until our car started and made us laugh the whole 2 mile trip down to my car.
The Subaru could have been cleaned out a little better but she wasn’t expecting company on this chilly night, so we weren’t too disturbed!
It’s employees like these that bring value to the world of customer service.

The Points Pass is the best beginner pass of any mountain. Free magic carpet, 10pts for riding the beginner chair and 20pts for the quad chair. Four people can share the pass per day. I have taught 5 kids to ski on one pass. 1000 pts for $260 and 500 pts for $160. Several trips on one pass. The best way for any mountain to create future skiers/boarders. When the east mountain is open they have ok expert runs.
The food is not great. On a snowy day, the snow players jam the roads. It can take 3 hours to get off the mountain. SoCal weather is a big issue, they manage snow well.

I absolutely love Moutain High! I wish winter lasted longer ! The employees are helpful and very kind ! Resort is fully staffed lines are short and fast! Maintenance is great ! Restrooms are clean at all times big plus !!!
