Went up to check it out and thinking it should be a good place for my girlfriend to continue learning how to ski, however that is not the case. It is truly a bad place for beginners.
Even though it wasn't fun for her, I still had a good time. I rode small laps off and on piste from all the different lifts, and even had quite of fun on the get down trail that takes you down to the city at the bottom of the gondola. That was actually a good workout, and offered a bit of fun, if you like to hit the side hits and play around.
Overall it was a good way to spend a few hours, and the views were amazing, but honestly for an extra 15-20 francs you can a mountain just up the road that is 10x the size with much more elevation and top of the line lifts.

Gerne wieder.

Excellent cross country ski destination and the groomed tracks in the village are in great condition with plenty of new snow. Really well set up with a variety of trails for all abilities both in the village and into the very beautiful adjoining valleys.

Kandersteg should not be advertised as a ski resort. There are simply not enough pistes for any level of competancy. The three blue pistes are very short, there are virtually no appropriate areas for absolute beginners, and the only red piste has two slopes on it. There are no black pistes. Overall, an average skier would spend no more than 2-3 hours there without becomong totally bored. We were forced to take day trips to Lauchernalp, and Adelboden before we could feel like being on a ski resort. The is absolutely nothing to do after the pistes have been crossed. Recently, the ski pass that would allow use of Lauchernalp and Kandersteg has been revoked so that if you want to ski in Lauchernalp, you will have to spend a lot of money on a second ski pass.
The ski resort in Kandersteg has some Draconian laws. For example, if you are unfortunate enough to have bought a six day pass, and then realised the lack of skiing ares, they will not refund any of your money.
My advice is to forget Kandersteg for skiing at the moment. Go to Adelboden instead. This will save you from a huge disappointment and be cheaper in the long run.

I visited Kandersteg a few years ago while on a Boy Scout trip to the International Scout Center there. Kandersteg is a cool mountain town, and obviously a center for all-year round adventure. (I've been in the summer as well.) Plenty of decent places to eat, but don't expect high-energy night life.
You have to ride an old, slow double chair to get up the mountain, but the view is nice...you can look over and see ice climbers on the cliffs across the valley.
Not much here to challenge the advanced skier, but a nice place to start kids off (assuming you live in Europe..i wouldn't come all the way from the states to ski here, obviously.)
Kandersteg has wonderful things to do for all ages. There is plenty of redtraunts, scenery, and you can learn to ski it is the best place around.
